Banks are struggling to find qualified commercial underwriters. It's a two-front challenge, wrote one expert in Bank Director: Baby boomers have held these positions for decades, and as more of them retire, banks will be forced to contend with an experience gap that won't be cheap or easy to fill. Additionally, the shift to remote work will make mentoring and training new commercial underwriters (historically an in-office position) that much harder.
He outlines several tips to help banks combat the problem, including communicating more frequently and emphasizing professional development. For additional insights on attracting talent in banking, check out this podcast from BAI.
Are you struggling to find qualified underwriters? How does your bank approach employee attraction and retention? Has economic uncertainty affected your approach to talent management in any way?
