The banking industry appears set for what American Banker referred to last week as the "great deposit shakeout," which may provide a golden opportunity for community banks. Institutions with less than $10 billion in deposits, such as Citizens Bank of Edmond in Oklahoma and Flagship Bank in Minnesota, reported inflows last week, Bloomberg reported. This is likely due to the trust customers have in local institutions, as well as smaller lenders' high percentage of insured deposits (well above 60%).
