[Poll Questions]: What do you make of the latest investing rage: non-fungible tokens, or NFT?

Barb,

We now live in this dramatic post-modern world (some have referred to it as hyper-modern) where we are simultaneously discouraged and disenfranchised about progress and yet unsurprised by anything miraculous.  Factions across the globe simultaneously believe (and seemingly trust) the unbelievable for the reason that the once unbelievable has so often become reality.  Hopeful beliefs are supported and amplified by the speed of advancement in technology and the immediate distribution of ideas whether ridiculous or legitimate across the globe.  It is hard to resist the notion that many things we now think are unbelievable will occur.  But trusting in them is a very different thing.

As a parallel example, it is quite common today to observe that many people believe they can be an internet star and make a living selling their personal advice to millions of people.  While I believe that some people can and do succeed.  It is a very different thing to point my family and friends to that as a vocation that they should invest and trust in.

Some of this audience might like this 4-minute 2008 video on dramatic financial gain some found in the South Seas Investment Bubble "Actual things are but a hinderance"... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QjN8q5rwLoo

What do you make of the latest investing rage: non-fungible tokens, or NFT? The most famous, and expensive, NFT is Beeple's "The First 5,000 Days," which sold for $69.3 million last month. But there are plenty of other less arty items on the NFT market, including toilet paper. What do you think of this newest asset class?

  •  It's gaining momentum and here to stay
  • It's a nutty fad and will soon fade
  • After Bitcoin hit $50,000, I'm not discounting anything
