[Podcast]: "The Only Way Out Of This Is Opportunity For Everybody": John Bryant On A New Marshall Plan for America
Good insights here on how education has been and always will be key to maximizing the productive value of one's talents, energy, and resources. However, not all education is equivalent in value and not everyone is capable of ingesting education in the productive way that is envisioned here. The vigor in our country is based on our ancestors being engaged and agile as they settled a new country. America became America not because of its "safety net", but because of its opportunities.
Today we have many college educated people who cannot pay their college debt. It is part of today's growing societal stress. These young people feel deceived that college didn't turn out to be the great investment for them that they expected and these students didn't know how to measure the expected return on what they were investing in their own college.
The ongoing narrative that the problems today are ultimately based on a legacy of an oppressor class is un-American and always takes us away from the continual need in a republic for personal responsibility. In my opinion widespread calls for programs that are essentially reparations only fuel the decline of legitimate and worthy personal aspirations. I like much of the tone of this message. However, I don't share the idea that sending all of today's young people to today's universities will create harmony and prosperity. The plan needs to evolve to better fitting education to the talents, skills, and potential of the students. The plan needs to broaden secondary education with curriculum that exposes young adults to the pragmatic truths of our history and a keen awareness of the dangers of socialism to our culture.
It is certainly true that we should continue to find better ways to equip and empower ALL young people to live a robust fulfilled life that is full of blessing to every individual and community across our globe. This is certainly worthy of investing resources and energy today and always. Thanks for sharing.
