Is the U.S. Debt Level Too High-or Too Low?
Didn't the U.S. acquire the land in the Louisiana Purchase because France had national debt that they cleared by that exchange. If foreign entities own U.S. debt, what would be the consequences in the world markets if those foreign entities declared they now would prefer to exchange that debt they own for real assets?

Listen to the latest episode of Banking with Interest podcast. David Andolfatto, a Senior Vice President in the research division at the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis, goes beyond the politics of the U.S. debt to tackle what it is, whether it's a problem, and what steps policymakers should be taking now. Along the way, he challenges common assumptions about the debt level and the debate around it.
