Is .BANK in your Future?
We adopted .BANK a couple of months ago. The process was relatively easy, but it will take years for the change to be recognized by all of the services that are using our .COM email addresses for logins.

Hundreds of banks are moving to adopt the .BANK domain, mainly to combat the tsunami of phishing and spoofing scams. "Interest has been bordering on explosive over the last few months," says Drew Schiff, director of engagement at fTLD, the registry service formed in 2014 by a consortium of banks, the American Bankers Association, and the Financial Services Roundtable. "Bankers recognize the value of going to a more secure domain, and now they are starting to realize it's not nearly as costly or complex as they once thought," Schiff says. The technical implementation can be completed in six to eight weeks for around $1,000, he says.
Since .BANK launched in mid-2015, roughly 2,300 banks have registered, but only a few hundred banks have completed the process and are actually using the domain.
"We've brought the complexity way down," Schiff says, noting fTLD now has a one-pager that outlines the domain's requirements, the benefits to banks and their customers, and who can help them implement each requirement. "We've streamlined the process, created new tools and programs, and made it easier for banks to make the move." Only chartered, regulated, verified banks that have cleared fTLD's security requirements may use the .BANK domain, so fraudsters can't use emails ending in .BANK to scam customers.
Banks using the .BANK domain range in asset size from $500 million to $9 billion and are spread across the country. "The community banks are just more agile," Schiff says. "It's easier for them to make this operational and reap the benefits."
Is your bank considering making the move to a .BANK domain? Why or why not?
