Debit cards and rentals cars

Mary,

Can you tell us how the charges ran up to $14,000 on a car rental? Car wreck?

We have not had any similar experiences with debit card payments for car rentals. And so this has not been on our radar screen.

Our bank just got hit for a debit card charge of $14,000 for a Nov. 2021 transaction/authorization that was for $600.  Something like this has happened to us before, and now we are considering not allowing our debit cards to be used at rental car companies because of the rules allowing them to come back later for huge charges.  Is this even on the radar screen for any of you?
