Criticized Loans Decline as Bank IPO Activity Picks Up
Criticized loans at U.S. banks fell 4%, to $249.83 billion in the second quarter while the industry’s median ratio of criticized loans to Tier 1 capital fell to 19.58% from 20.44%, S&P Global Market Intelligence reported. Twenty-six of the 30 banks with the most criticized loans reported quarterly declines in the volume of criticized loans.
Another S&P post mentioned that three U.S. banks completed IPOs totaling $332.5 million through Sept. 11, fewer than the five IPOs completed in 2025 but more than any other year since 2021.
